A Financial Planner turned author has written a new book which gives people tips on how to live a full life by ‘squeezing the orange.’

Jason Butler, who founded Bloomsbury Wealth Management in 1998 before selling his stake two years ago, has published his latest book ‘Squeezing the Orange: Simple ways to live a full life’ which is now available on Amazon.

The book costs £7.99 and Mr Butler, a fellow of both the PFS and CISI, said it was designed to be a ‘self improvement’ publication.

He said: “This book is a self-improvement book, written in a very accessible style with stories and anecdotes and is in line with my focus on personal well-being. The style is story based with short punchy chapters that make it easy to read and engage with.”

Speaking about his book on his website, he said: “Squeezing the Orange focuses on the activities and mindsets that lead some people to achieve the life they want, and others to settle for a life that'll do. This book motivates those who want more for themselves than their current 'normal'.”

Mr Butler, who has also written the first and second editions of ‘The Financial Times Guide to Wealth Management: How to plan, invest and protect your financial assets’, added that he was hopeful the book will have a ‘massive difference’ on people’s lives.

He said: “My hope is that the book will appeal to all age groups and provide at least three or four key insights that the reader can implement immediately to make a massive difference to their life. The early indications are encouraging with an 18 year old reading his dad's copy and saying it was 'highly motivational'.”

The early indications are positive, with the book recently being ranked at number 12 in the business life category on Amazon.

Mr Butler said his inspiration for the book came from his daughter, Daisy.

On his website, he said: “My eldest daughter (Daisy) had set her heart on going to Durham University to read Classics and knew that they would probably require her to achieve three A grade A Levels. She duly sat the AS exams for two of her three A Level subjects and results day arrived and she had achieved Bs in both subjects – a complete disaster.

“My daughter was distraught at her results and was completely deflated. I comforted her and explained that these things happen. She then formally applied to Durham and was fortunate to receive an offer which was conditional on achieving an A grade in each of her three subjects.
“Every night my daughter would immerse herself with her books, papers and exam guides. One day earlier this year I said to her that, whatever the result of her exams, I was proud of her work ethic and self-discipline. And that’s when she me reminded of the life advice I gave her when she was nine years old.

“Dad, you told me that life is like an orange and you can decide how much you get out of it. You can squeeze it a bit and leave a lot of goodness inside, or you can squeeze it a lot and extract every last drop’ and that was the inspiration for my new book”

“I’m pleased to say that my daughter did get the three As she needed to go to Durham and the book which she inspired me to write was published on the same day as she got her results.”
