Members of The Personal Finance Society can now be mentored by a financial professional from another part of the world in a new international mentoring programme.

PFS members themselves can also offer to mentor other PFS members in other parts of the globe.

Both mentors and mentees may be able to accumulate CPD hours for their participation, says the PFS, in recognition of the support offered to other professionals.

The e-mentoring platform, called Connect, has been built to promote professional development and learning for personal finance professionals at any stage of their careers.

The PFS says that mentorship can be undertaken flexibly to suit different preferences, such as meeting face to face, or online, enabling “a much broader range of people to share their specific skills and experience.”

Keith Richards, chief executive of the Personal Finance Society, said: “Connect presents an excellent opportunity for our members to access the broad and diverse range of skills and experience which exists within the financial advice community.

“No matter what stage of our career we are at, we can all benefit from the valuable experience our members have gained over many years within the profession.

“In bringing professionals together, Connect facilitates the sharing of knowledge and practical experience as part of the core soft skills which is often missing in a more technical focused CPD environment.”

Mentors and mentees will be able to pair themselves up in accordance with specific criteria, such as skills and specific learning needs, which the participants will self-declare.

The Personal Finance Society provides the Chartered Financial Planner qualification and other exams, promotes professional standards and runs training events, conferences and seminars. It is part of the Chartered Insurance Institute and has 37,000 individual members.
