Bid to reach South Pole could be complete tomorrow
Tomorrow could mark the final leg of a gruelling challenge for a cancer survivor who is trekking to the South Pole.
Financial Planner Patrick McIntosh, 58, contacted Financial Planner Online today all the way from the Arctic to say he still hopes to complete the journey tomorrow, after heading there about two weeks ago.
If he does so, he will have arrived on the same day as Captain Scott did 103 years ago.
The intrepid adventurer, who is being sponsored by IFP corporate member Aegon, told FPO via Twitter: "We're going to push on through the weather today, have an early start tomorrow and hope we make it."
Mr McIntosh, a director at KMG, is hoping to raise awareness and money for three charities - Bowel Cancer UK, Prostate Cancer UK, and The Voice of the Listener and Viewer. Mr McIntosh has overcome three types of cancer since 2012 and through the adventure, he hopes to raise £220,000 for charities helping sufferers. So far he has amassed over £50,000.
In his latest blog post he outlined some of the difficulties he and his guide have faced in the -30 degrees Celsius conditions.

He wrote: "Thursday - Terrible. It was thick, thick fog. There was no horizon. We couldn't navigate, I felt sick because I didn't know what was up and down and sideways. We've got another two days of that, apparently, all the way to the Pole.
"Conrad spent all day staring at a compass. I had to shout at him a few times when he got completely confused and started veering off in different directions! He did bloody well though, he did absolutely incredibly well.
"It was a slow old day but we still did over 20 kilometres. And then when we got to the tent, the flipping stove wouldn't light! So we've been fiddling about, and Conrad's rebuilt one of the stoves, so luckily we've now got some hot water.
"A pretty demoralising day, generally."
He has had to cope with sickness and breathing problems among other hardships.
The other day he thanked Dame Judi Dench for supporting the attempt. The actress lives close to his home in Surrey.
