A wealth manager from RBS has been hired by Tilney Bestinvest as its new director of Financial Planning.
Roy Smith joins Tilney Bestinvest from RBS Private Clients Group where he had worked as a wealth manager and Financial Planner since August 2011.
The company said his appointment was part of a “strategic focus on expanding its Financial Planning team”.
He will be based in the firm’s Glasgow office where his job will be focused on delivering expert advice. The firm has a ‘two experts’ approach whereby Financial Planners get paired with investment managers.

Richard Dawes, managing director of Financial Planning, said: “Our Financial Planning business is currently undergoing a period of strong growth that reflects the huge number of enquiries the firm is receiving.”
Focusing primarily on private client advice, Mr Smith’s role at RBS was based on providing holistic Financial Planning and wealth management for a portfolio of high net worth clients.
He had previously worked for RBS as a senior private banking manager, and has also held roles at private banking firm Adam & Company and Clydesdale Bank Insurance Brokers.
Mr Dawes said: “With the radical shake-up to pensions, demand for sound Financial Planning advice has never been greater, and appointments like Roy’s ensure that we can provide the superior service our clients expect.
“We are delighted to welcome him to the team.”
