Uni students get Financial Planning career help
The Personal Finance Society is teaming up with Next Gen Planners to deliver ‘bootcamps’ for university students interested in developing a career in Financial Planning.
The bootcamps, which will be held virtually due to Coronavirus restrictions, will provide an explanation of the types of careers available in the profession.
Employers and coaches will provide an overview of the profession too.
Undergraduates will be encouraged to demonstrate the skills they have that would make them ideally suited to become a financial adviser before being split into groups to explore a dilemma and discuss how best to resolve it.
The first round of boot camps will be held at Coventry, Edinburgh Napier, Glasgow Caledonian, Liverpool John Moores, Manchester Metropolitan, Nottingham and Middlesex universities in April.
Further bootcamps will be held at universities across the country in the coming months, the PFS says.
The PFS is a professional body which has more than 40,000 members and provides the Chartered Financial Planner designation.
Financial advisers interested in taking part in the bootcamps and giving students a taste of what they can expect from the profession can contact Vivine Cameron, Education Partnerships Manager, by This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
Keith Richards, chief executive of the Personal Finance Society, said: “We are proud to work with Next Gen Planners to deliver these bootcamp sessions and encourage a fresh and diverse array of talent to enter the financial planning profession.
“These bootcamps are a great opportunity for financial planners to engage with universities in their local area and connect with undergraduates to give them a taste of a rewarding personal finance career where professionals can help rebuild back better the financial fortitude of the UK.”
Adam Owen, director of Next Gen Planners and past president of the Personal Finance Society, said: “Our University Boot Camp programme has been successfully matching undergraduates with employers since 2019 and by partnering with the Personal Finance Society for 2021 we are able to take the programme to the next level, visiting more universities and involving more employers.”
