Polar trek adviser hoping to match Captain Scott thanks Judi Dench
A determined Financial Planner is still hopeful of reaching the South Pole on the 103rd anniversary of Captain Scott's arrival there despite having to battle breathing problems and sickness.
Patrick McIntosh, 58, has his sights on finishing his polar expedition on 17 January to coincide with the famous explorer's own trek.
The intrepid adventurer, who is being sponsored by IFP corporate member Aegon, has also thanked Dame Judi Dench for supporting the attempt. The actress lives close to his home in Surrey.

Mr McIntosh has overcome three types of cancer since 2012 and through the adventure, he hopes to raise £220,000 for charities helping sufferers.
In his latest blog post, he reported experiencing "real breathing problems" and altitude sickness.
He said: "I think if we really push it, we may be able to achieve our goal of reaching the Pole on the 17th January - the 103rd anniversary of Captain Scott's arrival there.
"To do this, we will have to complete more than 20km each day, which is seriously hard work. I hope I'm up to it. I'm sure many of you know that I'm competitive and I can tell you that Conrad (polar guide) is too!
"It was great to hear today about everyone at home who is behind me, although my wife Sue is worried."
He added: "A special thank you to Dame Judi Dench, who lives locally and has supported the cause."
On one of his latest Twitter posts, he reported: "We've now trekked 120 km, leaving 102km to tackle in 4.5 days. I honestly don't know if I've got it in me but I'll give it a go!"
Mr McIntosh, a director at KMG, is hoping to raise awareness and money for three charities - Bowel Cancer UK, Prostate Cancer UK, and The Voice of the Listener and Viewer. So far he has amassed over £50,000.
