Equitable Life has entered into an agreement to transfer the society and its policies to Reliance Life - part of the LCCG Group - for £1.8bn. 

Nearly £1.08 billion has now been paid out to Equitable Life policyholders through the Equitable Life Payment Scheme.

The first payments have begun for Equitable Life policyholders today as part of a three year programme of compensation.
