NatWest Group plc has signed a deal today to acquire Sainsbury’s Bank’s retail banking assets and liabilities and its 1m customer accounts for £2.5bn.

Former Centrica chairman Rick Haythornthwaite will take over as the £775,000 a year chairman of NatWest Group in April when current chairman Sir Howard Davies steps down.
