HMRC has extended to 5 April 2025 the opportunity for taxpayers to fill gaps in their National Insurance record from April 2006.

Only an average of 123,000 people per year have made Class 3 National Insurance Contributions (NICs) which allow them to fill historic gaps in their NI records and receive a higher state pension over the last five years.

A Government scheme allowing people to fill gaps in their National Insurance records will come to an end on 5 April.

The reversal of April’s 1.25% increase in National Insurance rates for employees and employers took effect from Sunday 6 November.
