BBC radio pension expert lands CISI presidential role
A senior specialist in trusts and pension funds who rose to a position of managing director aged just 29 has landed a prestigious role with the CISI.
Richard Larner Chartered FCSI, who joined Hargreave Hale from Brewin Dolphin to head up a new Norwich office this year, has been appointed president of the CISI East Anglia branch.
Mr Larner, who was 29 when he became MD of Norwich & Peterborough Building Society's stockbroking subsidiary Waters Lunniss in 1990, takes over from former president Martin Warren.
The advisory and discretionary portfolio specialist has been a regular contributor to BBC Radio Norfolk on business matters over the past 25 years.
Mr Larner said: “It is a real privilege to have been appointed to this role within the CISI, which I joined as its 44th member when it was founded back in 1992.
“It is amazing to think that the CISI now comprises over 43,000 members for whom it has become a vital part of their route to qualification and continuing professional development. I should also like to congratulate my predecessor Martin Warren on his considerable success in furthering the CISI’s presence within East Anglia during his three year tenure.”
He began a private client stockbroking career in the City of London with Grieveson Grant in 1984. He became one of three founding partners of Hill Osborne's Norwich office in 1997 - which was later acquired by Brewin Dolphin - where he also served as head of office between 2007 and its closure in January 2015.
He became a member of the Stock Exchange in 1986 and is a CISI Chartered Fellow.
Richard Bennett, CISI’s Regional Director said: “We are delighted to welcome Richard Larner as new president and we look forward to supporting him in the promotion of the branch’s professional development and membership programme.”
The CISI East Anglia branch has 400 members.
Its first event of the New Year is on Thursday 4 February at the National Skills Academy in Norwich. The event will feature Christopher Dixon, associate of Blackrock who will give an update on commodities, while Trevor Neil, director of Beta Group will present on Behavioural Economics.
