CPI inflation increases to 2.9 per cent in June
Consumer prices inflation has increased from 2.7 per cent to 2.9 per cent in June.
The Office for National Statistics said this was "slightly above" the average figures seen over the previous 12 months.
This is the second consecutive rise after a jump from 2.4 per cent to 2.7 per cent in May.¬¬
The largest upward contributions came from motor fuels and clothing and footwear while downward contributions came from air transport.
Clothing and footwear prices fell by 1.9 per cent between May and June compared to a fall of 4.2 per cent between the same period in 2012.

Transport prices rose by 0.1 per cent compared to a fall of 0.5 per cent between the same period in 2012. Petrol prices rose by 1.0 pence per litre compared to a fall of 4.3 pence per litre last year.
This was offset by a 2.8 per cent fall in air fares compared to a rise of 7.4 per cent in 2012. The decrease came primarily from European flights.
Smaller downward contributions came from food and non-alcoholic drinks, recreation and culture and furniture and household equipment.
New measure CPIH, which measures the cost of owner-occupier housing, increased from 2.5 per cent to 2.7 per cent in June.
The RPI rate, which include mortgage payments, increased from 3.1 per cent to 3.3 per cent.
The next inflation figures will be issued by the ONS on 13 August.
