Plans underway for Financial Planning Week 2012
Planning for 2012’s Financial Planning Week in November has already begun after the success of the initiative last year.
The IFP says the week, which took place between 21-27 November 2011, was the most successful since the campaign began in 2008.
This year will be the fifth year of the campaign and one of the highlights will be a review of the last four years of Financial Planning Week surveys.
The initiative began before the financial crisis hit and surveys over the years reveal key facts about how people’s habits and attitudes to money have changed in the years since then.
Sue Whitbread, communications director at the IFP, said: “We’re going to collate four years worth of survey data in one document, the first one was conducted just before the Lehman crash when people were spending lots and living for today so it will be interesting to see how last year’s data compares.”
Support from IFP member firms and Accredited Financial Planning Firms was significantly higher last year than previous years. Support was also more widespread with organisations such as Credit Action and Age Concern getting involved with the campaign.
Firms held financial surgeries, workshops and events to help promote their businesses and Financial Planning in general.
One noticeable feature was the inclusion of charities with many firms offering events which raised money for their chosen charity as well as supported Financial Planning Week. This is something the IFP will look into further this year. Another popular idea was Financial Planners visiting schools to talk to pupils about finance.
As a result, the IFP is looking at producing a Powerpoint presentation which can be used with pupils and will save advisers time and ensure consistency across the board.
Tools available during Financial Planning Week proved popular - with Prestwood/Truth offering a version of its cashflow forecasting software and Finametrica offering a risk profiling tool to enable users to work out their own capacity for risk.
The Prestwood tool was the most popular page visited on the whole Financial Planning Week website.
A new ‘Ask A Planner’ feature on the Financial Planning Week website was also a hit with questions such as “what qualifications should I look for in a Financial Planner?” and “how can we secure a loan to pay off debt?”
Financial Planning Week will be held in November but a specific date has not yet been confirmed.
