IFP corporate member profile: Henderson Global Investors
Henderson Global Investors is proud to be a corporate member of the Institute of Financial Planning. Our mission is to be a trusted global asset manager focused on delivering excellent performance and service to clients.
When Henderson was founded in 1934, the company was not named after a fund manager, an executive or an office location – rather, it was named after our first client. Alexander Henderson was a stockbroker and a Member of Parliament involved in financing numerous large infrastructure projects, most notably railways. These ranged from the Great Northern Railway in Britain, to the Central Argentine Railway and the Central Uruguay Railway. A visionary and a man of principle, he was in many ways a pioneer in global investing and was created the first Lord Faringdon in 1916. Eighty years on and we continue to nurture trusting relationships with clients – and continue to serve the Henderson family.
Today, Henderson is an independent asset manager with assets under management of more than £75bn, more than 1,000 employees and offices all around the world*. With investment expertise across every asset class, Henderson's investment managers invest in all major markets around the globe, with core capabilities including European Equities, Global Equities, Global Fixed Income, Multi-Asset and Alternatives.

The Henderson philosophy is based upon active fund management. By leveraging the depth of talent and expertise across our core capabilities, we seek to bring the best active investment opportunities to our clients through innovative and traditional products. Our investment managers are supported by a global team of researchers and economists who have a keen understanding of the economic forces driving markets and who undertake rigorous sector and theme analysis. Underpinning this process is a comprehensive risk-control framework to ensure that investment views are translated into portfolios managed in line with investors' risk and return requirements.
Across the company, we have a fundamental belief in openness and collaboration – in the power of sharing knowledge. This philosophy is hardwired throughout our organisation, through our investment platform, our structure and the culture and behaviour of all our people. At Henderson, knowledge is valued and knowledge is shared.
