The October branch meeting for the Northern Ireland branch saw a great turn out, welcoming David Jones of Dimensional Fund Advisors on the subject of “making complex simple.”
Delegates looked at how clients think and what information they really want. In many cases advisers do the opposite of what clients want, going into fine detail when their clients typically want the broad picture.
Branch chairman Robert Stevenson CFPCM said: “Discussions took place around how to make things simpler for clients, cutting away at all the ‘noise’ around what we do to get to the point of explaining topics in a really simple way that covers what is important to clients. It became obvious during the seminar that this is not easy to achieve.
“We left the meeting with a sentence ringing in our ears, “repeat this until you are left with nothing but the meaningful and the essential.” however we all realised that to achieve this desired outcome would be no easy task. The question is still there, are we all guilty of trying to provide too much information/explanation to our clients?”
