Inaugural speech from new IFP President Rebecca Taylor
Rebecca Taylor FIFP CFPCM gave her inaugural speech as President of the Institute of Financial Planning today to a packed conference hall full of delegates.
Ms Taylor has taken over from Marlene Shalton FIFP CFPCM, president for the past two years. Ms Taylor will also serve a two year term.
She said: "I am humbled that I am in this position, standing here today, in the hope that I too may be able to inspire someone to follow a similar path that I have taken."
Themed around 'life's journeys', Ms Taylor spoke about how inspired she was by the IFP and her hopes for the future of Financial Planning.
In her role as President, she said, she hopes to grow the number of CFPCM professionals, the number of Accredited Financial Planning Firms and campaign for further recognition of the Paraplanner role.
She spoke about developing 'Financial Planning in a box' which were the tools required by advisers to run a Financial Planning business. This included the launch of the Integrated Financial Planning programme which would help advisers to understand Financial Planning.
However, she said many delegates had already made the transition to Financial Planning and were lucky regarding the RDR.
She said: "You are the fortunate ones, through your own desire to create the best service for you and your clients you have unknowingly out yourself in a position where you are already many steps ahead of regulation change."
Ending her speech she warned delegates: "We are in a position where we can inspire and liberate our clients, and make a real difference and help shape their lives. It is not a position that can or should be taken lightly."
Ms Dunham is one of a series of speakers at the three-day conference taking place at Celtic Manor Resort in South Wales.
