Aegon UK acquires Pension Geeks
Pension and investment provider Aegon UK has acquired retirement information, communication and events specialist firm Pension Geeks.
Pension Geeks helps employers and financial services providers build bespoke events and communication programmes to encourage people to engage with their pension finances.
It's best known for its familiar 'Pension Geeks' double decker bus and regular pensions awareness campaigns.
The firm was founded by Jonathan Bland and Rachel Parkinson in 2014. Both founders will continue to lead the firm with it remaining operationally independent but with access to investment and resources from Aegon to expand the business.
The company has previously worked in partnership with Aegon to deliver onsite employer events, covering pension basics and engaging employees through virtual reality headsets and caricature artists to help pension savers picture their future selves. The two companies have been working together since 2018.
Pension Geeks created Pension Awareness Day, an event where teams of ‘pension geeks’ drive around the country to help thousands of consumers with their pensions.
The Pension Geeks had to ditch their big blue bus touring the country in 2020 in favour of an online campaign as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, but still launched Pension Awareness Live in September. Aegon was one of the sponsors for the 2020 online event.
Mr Bland said: “Part of our success comes from the bold and creative culture we’ve established at Pension Geeks and with Aegon, we will continue to break the status quo with fresh and out of the box thinking when communicating financial topics.”
