Julie Lord: Planning firms must adapt service for older clients
Former Institute of Financial Planning President Julie Lord writes in her latest column for Financial Planning Today magazine that planners are facing a challenge to serve an increasing number of clients aged 80 and above.
Read on for her thoughts below.
When I first started working in the financial world, my clients were either the same age as me or just retired.
Now many of those retirees are in their 80s and 90s and need a different kind of service, that takes account of age related issues.
A number of our clients are currently in hospital or care facilities and this number looks like it might rise over the next few months.
We now seldom see some of our oldest and most dear clients because they are confined to bed or live in care homes and we have to deal with their children or their attorneys or in one difficult situation, with the court of protection.
If we want to future-proof our businesses we have to adapt our businesses to ensure that we can serve elderly clients effectively.
