The House of Lords is investigating whether the amount and level of financial education introduced to schools is yet to make a difference.
This week a Lords Committee on Financial Exclusion will hear evidence about financial education in schools.
Questions the committee is likely to ask include:
• Has the addition of financial education to the secondary school curriculum made a difference? Are you aware of any good practice that could be rolled out more broadly?
• How could primary school children be taught about managing money? What would be the biggest challenges to doing this?
• Who should fund financial education in schools? Are current levels of funding sufficient?
• How does the teaching of financial education vary across the secondary school sector?
• Should Ofsted inspections include an assessment of financial education?
The session is part of the committee’s inquiry into financial exclusion and access to mainstream financial services.
The committee will hear from:
• Jenny Barksfield, Deputy Chief Executive and Senior Subject Specialist, PSHE Association
• Mr Adrian Lyons, National Lead for Economics, Business and Enterprise, Ofsted.
The evidence session will take place at 10.40am tomorrow in Committee Room 2A of the House of Lords.
