Pensions campaigner Dr Ros Altmann has been awarded a CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours. There were knighthoods for Gerry Grimstone, chairman of asset manager Standard Life, who received a knighthood for public service to defence and business and Bank of England Deputy Governor Charlie Bean. Consumer rights campaigner Martin Lewis has become an OBE. Dr Altmann, who helped campaign for the end of compulsory annuities, was given her CBE for services to pensioners and pension provision. Money Saving Expert website founder Mr Lewis gained his honour for services to consumer rights and charity through the MSE charity fund. Meanwhile, Dr Altmann is embarking on the last leg of a tour talking to advisers about the opportunities created by the Budget pensions overhaul.

The retirement expert is the main speaker at the MetLife roadshows, where she has been presenting her ideas on the need for Financial Planning and education and how consumers can benefit from the new retirement flexibility. Dominic Grinstead, managing director of UK MetLife, said: "Ros Altmann has been at the forefront of efforts to change the rules on pensions in the UK and her views on the Budget overhaul will be invaluable for advisers."
