Andy Briggs, president ABI
Andy Briggs, CEO of Phoenix Group, has become the new president for the Association of British Insurers (ABI) with immediate effect and will hold the role for the next two years.
He follows Tim Bailey at Zurich who had been President since 2023.
Ken Norgrove, CEO, UK & international, RSA Insurance, remains the ABI’s Deputy President.
Mr Briggs was appointed group chief executive of Phoenix Group in March 2020. He has more than 30 years of insurance industry leadership experience and is a qualified actuary.
He was previously group chief executive of Friends Life, the listed insurer, managing director of Scottish Widows, chief executive of the retirement income division of Prudential and chairman of the ABI. He has also been a trustee of the NSPCC and chaired its income generation committee.
Most recently he was CEO UK insurance of Aviva plc until April 2019. He was awarded an MBE in the 2021 New Year Honours for his personal external fundraising work for over a decade, for the NSPCC.

Three new board members have also been appointed including Drazen Jaksic, appointed as CEO of Zurich UK in January, who replaces Tim Bailey following his move to become CEO of Zurich’s Global Life Protection business.
Other new ABI board appointees include Alistair Hargreaves, CEO of UK insurance, Admiral, who replaces Cristina Nestares, while Chris Carroll, CEO, Bupa Insurance UK, replaces Alex Perry.
