Strategic bonds were the top-selling sector in September according to Cofunds. These overtook Mixed Investment 20-60 per cent Shares which had held the top spot for 37 months.
Strategic bonds accounted for 271 per cent of net sales. Within the sector, M&G Optimal Income was the most popular followed by the Jupiter Strategic Bond.
The number one selling fund on the Cofunds platform overall was Jupiter Merlin Income Portfolio followed by Invesco Perpetual Distribution and M&G Optimal Income.
Other popular sectors were the Global Equity Income and Absolute Return sectors.
Michelle Woodburn, head of fund group relations at Cofunds, said: "After 37 consecutive months at the top, it was significant that Mixed Investment 20-60 per cent Shares were finally moved from the number one spot by Strategic Bonds in September.
"As market volatility continued, it was also interesting to see a significant outflow in the UK Equity Income sector. This indicates that advisers are increasingly seeking their income from funds with global exposure. In support of the trend, high net sales were seen in the Global Equity Income sector."
