The first Institute of Financial Planning “Only Way is Ethics” conference was held yesterday, attracting nearly 60 attendees.
The conference was held in Warwickshire and followed a successful ethics and practice standards day last year.
Some 55 delegates attended the day which was worth five hours of CPD including almost three hours worth of ethics and practice standards CPD.
Speakers included Phil Billingham CFPCM from Threesixty Services, Paul Resnik from Finametrica and independent compliance consultant Adam Samuel.
Alan Dick CFPCM, speaker and chair of the IFP Ethics Committee, said: “It was a great day, very interesting with a varied set of presentations.
“Ethics is far more than just complying with FSA regulation. Adam Samuel speaking on the code of ethics was very good as was Paul Resnik who questioned whether Financial Planners were letting their own risk tolerances influence their clients.
“The IFP was one of the first professional bodies to have a clearly defined Code of Ethics and it also requires five hours of ethics CPD. People have often asked how they can achieve this and attending the conference fulfils a lot of that requirement.”
Chris Bowmer CFPCM, delegate and director of Fortitude Financial Planning, said: “I enjoyed it, it gave me food for thought. I thought the best speaker was Paul Resnik from Finametrica.”
