A fraudster claiming to work for Aberdeen Asset Management has been offering false lease agreements through email. Aberdeen, a corporate member of the Institute of Financial Planning, revealed it had become aware of an individual operating a scam. The culprit has been using the name and old logo of Aberdeen Asset Management. {desktop}{/desktop}{mobile}{/mobile} In a warning on its website, the firm said: "This individual is also using a profile on the website Linkedin which suggests he is an Aberdeen Asset Management member of staff to lend credibility to his approach. "Aberdeen does not offer such agreements and will not contact the public in this way to offer such." Linkedin is never used by Aberdeen staff to make contact with prospective clients or offer unsolicited business proposals via the site. The firm also warned about a second apparent scam. Investors have received calls from people wanting to buy their investment company shares who purport to work for Aberdeen or third party firms. Aberdeen told clients via its website: "These may be scams which attempt to gain your personal information with which to commit identity fraud or could be 'boiler room' scams where a payment from you is required to release the supposed payment for your shares. "These callers do not work for Aberdeen and any third party making such offers has no link with Aberdeen. "Aberdeen never makes these types of offers and does not 'cold-call' investors in this way."
