Pete Matthew, South West branch chairman
A good turn-out for the July meeting came to listen to David Scarlett, author of Soul Millionaire, speak about 'The Apple Effect' and delivering beyond customers' expectations, reports branch chairman Pete Matthew CFPCM.
We have not had much content on marketing in the last couple of years so it made a refreshing change. David stressed the need to understand why we do what we do, and then to work with clients who appreciate and value the same things we do.
He also impressed on us that success post-2013 will involve mastering business, and not just the technicalities of our trade or the process of delivering advice.
Former chairman Simon Boulter CFPCM and Mo Bowen CFPCM of BoulterBowen Wealthcare then briefed us on the details of the FSA's Business Risk awareness assessment, which they had undergone that afternoon.
Needless to say this presented no challenge to these previous winners of the David Norton award but their insight was helpful to those of us yet to go through the assessment.
All in all, an excellent meeting with great feedback. Our next meeting will be held on the 17 October- join us then.
