Similar to the UK, the Financial Planning Institute of South Africa aims to educate consumers about dealing with a professional Financial Planner and the importance of Financial Planning .
Last weekend it held four exhibitions at major shopping centres in Cape Town, Randburg, Johannesburg and Pretoria to meet consumers and will hold another this weekend in Durban.

It is also holding Financial Planning clinics where consumers could receive one-to-one guidance from a Certified Financial Planner. Over 30 Financial Planning firms around the country are participating in the week and will be offering guidance on consumers about why they should have a financial plan.
Others are appearing on South African TV, radio and the South African Financial Services Board has held its first financial literacy survey. This revealed 54 per cent of the population were financially literate and knew more about credit and loans than investment and savings.
As well as Financial Planning Week, FPISA also holds a MYMONEY123 which is a financial education community outreach programme to engage all South Africans to consider their finances and goals.
