Bristol Branch welcomed three speakers to cover three different aspects of planning and advice for elderly and vulnerable clients at its September meeting.
Anthony Fairweather, MD of Solicitors Clarke Willmott Private Client division, provided a useful legal update on elderly care law and the court of protection in particular.
Brian Fisher, Long Term Care marketing manager from Friends Life, then gave an update on long term care reform including the longevity cap and means tested thresholds.

Finally, Andrew Pike, head of intermediary relationships NS&I gave an overview of who uses NS&I as so many are over 65 and HNWs who are loyal to the brand.
He also shared some of the ways that NS&I is boosting support for professional advisers. Branch chairman Julian Frere CFPCM said: "I was shocked by Andy's revelation that just 21 per cent of respondents in a recent NS&I survey would consider a financial adviser for their later life needs, especially as this is such a technical area. As planners, we've clearly got work to do!"
