But that was exactly the challenge that Sally Williams, who works at Kingsley Financial Planning, took on.
Client admin manager Ms Williams raised £1,200 for National Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Week by carrying out the daring feat.
She has suffered with Rheumatoid Arthritis for nine years now.
She said: "I chose to do a wing walk as it was something I had always wanted to do, whilst still physically able.
"Getting up onto the top wing of the Stearman plane was in itself a challenge but once up there at 500ft, flying at 130mph – it was exhilarating.

"I got down and wanted to do it all over again, but after having a week of ringing in my ears and muscle ache from holding my arms out waving to the cows and cars whilst up there flying, I was actually just grateful to have had the opportunity to do it, thanks to the kind sponsorship from my employer Kingsley Financial Planning."
It took three years for Ms Williams to get a diagnosis but she said she can now cope reasonably well day to day thanks to the care and treatment she has had.
She said: "I am proud of my achievement but most important of all is knowing that hopefully I have made a few more people aware of RA– it may be 'invisible' but it's a reality for so many of us."
IFP member Carl Mason, director of Kingsley Financial Planning, said: "Fundamentally as a company we encourage clients to achieve any long held ambitions they may be harbouring whether it be wing walking or diving with great white sharks, it seems logical to encourage staff to do the same.
"Wing walking is not for the faint hearted and as a company we were proud that Sally put herself outside of her comfort zone to achieve a long held ambition and all for raising funds and awareness for a worthy charity that means something personally to her."
