More than 2,500 Chartered Insurance Institute members will take their exams online over the next few months as the professional body shifts to remote testing and remote invigilation due to the pandemic.

Next week the CII will contact more than 2,500 candidates who were due to sit their written exams on 6 and 7 July for units RO6, AF7, AF1 and AF5.

Remote invigilation will be used to ensure students follow the exam rules.

Remote invigilation enables a student to take an assessment onscreen in their own home or a private space with monitoring carried out by an invigilation system and a remote invigilator.

CII exam centres are closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic and the CII is contacting candidates to help them prepare for the new online exams.

In response to government guidance, the CII has postponed June’s multiple-choice-question (MCQ) exams in centres in the UK.

Candidates will be contacted in the next week to be offered a chance to rebook at an exam centre for another date or take the exam by remote invigilation at a future date.

Remote invigilation will be gradually rolled out, with some units starting in July and remote invigilation for all multiple-choice-question exams will be available by the end of Autumn. 

The CII says that when it can safely reopen MCQ exam centres, it will, and then candidates will have the choice of taking their MCQ exam at a centre or by remote invigilation.

For students outside of the UK wanting to sit MCQ exams, the CII will follow regional government advice for that area and reopen exam centres when it is safe to do so, it said. Remote invigilation will be available internationally.

This means our candidates can sit their exam online from the comfort of their own home or chosen private space.  It is a robust assessment delivery format with great convenience for professionals.”
