A former NHS finance boss who used to oversee budgets of over £400 million has been hired to help develop a new pensions website which has been likened to Compare the Market.

Jon Manser joins technology firm Selectapension as it gets set to launch Pension Monster later this year. He has been appointed as finance director.

Mr Manser, who has 20 years’ experience in the industry, said: “I am delighted to join Selectapension at this key stage of its evolution, particularly with the launch of Pension Monster later this year. I am looking forward to helping Selectapension grow as a business and ensure that it continues to provide outstanding products and services for advisers.”

Mr Manser was recently a senior management accountant at the NHS, where he was in change of the financial management team and looked after budgets of over £400 million. His last role was head of financial management at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

One of the primary roles he will take on is to help develop Pension Monster.

Speaking to Financial Planning Today earlier this year, Selectapension’s national accounts director Peter Bradshaw described Pension Monster as something akin to a price comparison website.

He said: “There’s an element of guidance, it’s a little like a pension version of Compare The Market. It will be a bit more detailed than Compare The Market but the intention is to get people thinking about their expectations in retirement.

“The attraction will be for the younger generation with less sophisticated needs who are more tech savvy to use a bit of kit like that.”

Mr Manser will also be influential in developing the company’s Pension Transfer Bureau Service and will work alongside managing director Andy McCabe, business director Pauline Malin and operations director Adrian Malin to increase the businesses growth.

Mr McCabe was delighted with the appointment of Mr Manser as the company’s new finance director.

He said: “We are fortunate to be able to bring on board someone with Jon’s knowledge and experience. Jon will play a major part in helping us achieve the strategic goals and objectives we have planned for our business.”
