Financial Planning Standards Board reveals new chair
At its annual meeting in Zurich, Switzerland, last week, the Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB), owner of the international Certified Financial Planner designation, selected Paul Grimes CFP to serve as the next FPSB Council chair.
The FPSB Council is the global forum for non-profit standards-setting bodies committed to promoting the value of Financial Planning; the value of working with a Certified Financial Planner professional; and the importance of having a global community of competent and ethical Financial Planners working in their clients’ interests.
Made up of delegates from professional Financial Planning bodies in 27 territories that have certified over 181,000 CFP professionals worldwide, the FPSB Council advises and guides the FPSB board of directors on setting strategy and developing standards for the global Financial Planning profession.
In addition to being chief executive for FPSB Ireland, Paul Grimes has nearly 30 years’ experience as an independent Financial Planner, consultant, business coach and trainer, specialising in the private banking and affluent sectors of the financial services industry.
During his career, Mr Grimes has worked with institutions and clients in Australia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the U.S.
He also lectures in Financial Planning at a post-graduate level.
He said: “The financial services industry worldwide is facing its most disruptive time in history.
“With the advent of fintech and higher regulatory standards for advice, there is tremendous opportunity for the FPSB Network and its worldwide community of Certified Financial Planner professionals to be the global leaders in serving consumers with ethical, relevant advice to help them plan well to live well.
“My goal in 2020 is for Financial Planning Standards Board as a global collective to become more agile in responding to the external environment, further enhancing its work toward becoming a trusted resource for government, regulators and consumers alike.”
FPSB CEO Noel Maye said: “Paul Grimes has been actively involved in shaping the future of CFP certification and the Financial Planning profession in Ireland, Europe and around the world since FPSB Ireland joined FPSB in 2008.
“With nearly three decades of experience in financial services and several leadership roles within the global FPSB Network, including serving as chairperson of FPSB Europe from 2013 to 2016, Paul will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to support and guide FPSB’s efforts to establish financial planning as a globally recognised profession, with CFP certification its symbol of excellence.”
