The co-founder of Bristol based Hargreaves Lansdown, Peter Hargreaves, has been honoured with a CBE.
Mr Hargreaves, who now sits on the board as an executive director after stepping down as chief executive in 2010, was named on today's New Year's Honours list. The businessman, who was named 47th in the Sunday Times rich list in April, with a fortune of over £1.5bn, was recognised for services to business innovation, financial services and to the city of Bristol. He had been 90th in the list the previous year. {desktop}{/desktop}{mobile}{/mobile} Born in 1946, he qualified as a chartered accountant and worked for KPMG, Unisys Group and Whitbread Plc, before launching the business in 1981 with Stephen Landsdown, who is also in the rich list top 100. Also recognised in the Honours list, gaining an OBE is Mary Elizabeth Pattison for services to state pension reform. Mrs Pattison is the head of division, ageing society and state pensions, strategy group, at the Department for Work and Pensions.
