CPI inflation was 2.8 per cent in March, unchanged from February's figure, according to the Office for National Statistics. The largest upward contribution came from recreation and culture while the largest downward contributions came from furniture and furnishings, transport and alcohol and tobacco. However, the ONS said the changes were "relatively small" compared with previous months. Recreation and culture grew by 0.5 per cent compared to a fall of 0.1 per cent between the same period last year, particularly due to books, photography equipment and DVDs. There was also a small upward contribution in miscellaneous goods and services from transport insurance. {desktop}{/desktop}{mobile}{/mobile} Furniture and furnishings grew by 0.8 per cent compared to a rise of 1.8 per cent last year, transport grew by 0.6 per cent compared to a 0.8 per cent rise last year and alcohol and tobacco fell by 0.5 per cent compared with a rise of 0.2 per cent a year ago.
