Rory Percival, Jason Butler headline at ‘Utopia or Dystopia’
Former FCA specialist Rory Percival and well known Financial Planner Jason Butler are among the headline names that have been revealed for a Financial Planning conference.
NextGen Planners is putting on its first ever major conference entitled Utopia or Dystopia: The Future for Young Advisers.
Chartered Financial Planner Mr Percival, who now runs his own consultancy, will tell delegates what he thinks Financial Planning must do to become recognised as a fully-fledged profession.
Mr Butler, who founded Bloomsbury Wealth in 1998, will talk about why he has taken a stake in technology consultancy Finsol Systems, which specialises in helping firms to deliver virtual face to face advice. He will discuss the areas where advisers could struggle to compete in the future.
NextGen Planners was conceived last year by Rohan Sivajoti, a Chartered Member of the London Institute of Banking & Finance, founder of Postcard Planning and advisory services director at Evestor, and Chartered Financial Planner Adam Carolan, director of Xentum.
They initially set up a Facebook group for like minded younger Financial Planners but it bloomed and blossomed and “grew a life of its own”.
At the conference, they will talk about their reasons for setting it up and why they think it’s “vital that young planners are encouraged to take control of their own future not just follow the past”.
Mark Polson, principal at The Lang Cat, is also among the guest speakers and will talk about “where product providers, investment businesses and platforms have failed the public in the past, the mistakes it continues to make, and what we can learn from it and change for the future”.
Simon Bussy from Altus will deliver a presentation on ‘man versus machine’, looking at the technologies expected to emerge over the next 5 to 10 years and how much it could change financial services.
Delegates will also hear how businesses can be structured to allow young advisers buy into their firm. Ed Foulkes, from national law firm Clarke Willmott, will offer insight into the practicalities involved in internal succession and management buy-outs.
The conference takes place on 30 November at The Bridgewater Hall, Lower Mosley St, Manchester M2 3WS.
