He believes closer co-operation would be for “the greater benefit of the public and the wider Financial Planning profession.”

In an exclusive Q&A with Financial Planning Today the partner at Holland Hahn & Wills, who is both a Certified and Chartered Financial Planner, says collaboration would be a positive move for the profession.

In recent times the CISI and rival body the Personal Finance Society have increasingly collaborated.

For the first time this year the PFS backed the annual CISI Financial Planning Week campaign, which took place last week, and the two bodies announced recently they would share office space in the City of London.

The two bodies are also members of the Chartered Bodies Alliance.

Mr Rocha-Lima said: “As a Chartered Financial Planner (the PFS/CII qualification), I feel that I can demonstrate my technical knowledge to my clients to give them confidence around my recommendations.

“As a Certified Financial Planner (the CISI qualification), I feel I can demonstrate my practical ability to apply that technical knowledge to compile a financial plan which will ultimately help them to achieve their goals. Therefore, I for one would love to see more collaboration between the two professional bodies - for the greater benefit of the public and the wider Financial Planning profession.”

The CISI Financial Planning Forum meets regularly under Chatham House rules to discuss the the profession’s development and listen to presentation by other practitioners.

Mr Rocha-Lima said he hoped during his tenure as chair to champion the “Financial Planning movement” and encourage more young people to pursue careers in Financial Planning.
